Fire prediction with AI

Detection using cameras is done by installing cameras on observation towers that cover a large area of the forest. These towers were previously guarded by humans, but today they are mostly monitored using cameras.Detection of smoke or flames is possible using artificial intelligence algorithms such as machine learning and image recognition technology. This technology has been successful in many applications and is also used in fire detection. However, this method also faces challenges. One of the main problems is that cameras may mistakenly identify smoke from agricultural activities or even wind turbines as fire smoke. Also, weather conditions such as fog or haze can make it difficult for cameras to accurately detect smoke.

Improving machine learning algorithms with more data can reduce detection errors, but a major limitation is that cameras typically cannot see through tree cover and only detect smoke once it reaches the top of the tree cover. Since many human-caused fires start at ground level, this delay in detection can cause the fire to become too large and dangerous by the time firefighters arrive.
